Booking your Place

When will my ceremony take place?

This year’s graduation ceremony will be held at the Barbican Centre on Thursday July 18 2019. There will be two ceremonies held on this day, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Graduates will be invited to one of these ceremonies, which one you are invited to is dependent on which course you have done. Find out more by visiting our ceremonies page.

When will booking open?

The booking system will open in early April and you will receive an email invitation when you can book. You will need your Student ID number to book your ticket. The graduate’s ticket is free, you still need to book a ticket to attend. Any guest tickets are priced at £30 per ticket. For further information, please see our ticket booking page.

I have not received my results. Should I book my ceremony place?

Yes, please book your graduation place even if you have not received your results yet. For whatever reason you do not achieve your award in time for this year’s graduation ceremony, you will be refunded the full amount for your tickets.

I have booked my place but have not completed my course in time for this year’s graduation ceremony. What should I do?

You will be refunded the full amount for your graduation tickets. More information about this will be sent to you if you find yourself in this situation. If you have already ordered your gown, please contact the gown company as soon as possible.

I have a debt to the university. Can I still attend a graduation ceremony?

If you have any outstanding debts with St George's, University of London, you will not be able to graduate, nor receive your degree certificate. Debts must be cleared before the ticket booking deadline at the latest. Debts can include unpaid tuition fees, library fines etc. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have no outstanding debts to SGUL.

 

Guest Tickets

How many ticket can I purchase?

All graduating students are guaranteed up to two guest tickets in the first instanceAfter this date, we will not be able to guarantee a place at the ceremony or any guest tickets. All guest tickets are priced at £30 (inc. VAT), which covers entry to the ceremony, a commemorative programme, and a drinks reception following the event. Graduate tickets are free, but you still need to book to attend the day. Find out more on our Ticket Booking page.

Can I get more than two tickets?

During the initially ticket booking process, you can express your interest in purchasing additional tickets. If there are any tickets left over, this will then go on sale after the ticket booking deadline on a first-come, first-serve basis. We are unable to make any exceptions. Are children allowed to attend the ceremony?

Can my guests collect my tickets?

No graduates must collect their own name card and guest tickets.

Can I get a refund for my graduation ticket/s?

Guest tickets can be refundable up until Thursday 4 June after which point refunds will not be issued except to students who do not achieve their award in time for the ceremonies, in which case a full refund will be granted.

Will the tickets be posted to us?

No, tickets will be available for collection from the Registration desk on the morning of the graduation ceremony.
 

Visa Assistance

Can I get a letter for my guests that need a visa?

Yes, we can provide a general letter to support a visa application for the guests of graduates attending the ceremony. The graduate is required to request a visa supporting letter in writing to the graduations team.  

Certificate and Award

Will I receive my certificate on the day of the ceremony?

No – degree certificates will be sent out by the University of London or Registry (depending on the degree awarding body). Certificates can take up to three months to be posted to graduates following the date of the Graduation Ceremony. 

Can I change my awarding body?

All current registered students who were enrolled before 1 September 2012 will be able to choose which award they receive – St George’s. For information, new students who registered at SGUL from 1 September 2012 onwards will not be given a choice; they will automatically be awarded a St George’s degree.  If you are eligible to choose, you will hear from us.

I don't want want my name in the commemorative programme. Who can I talk to?

Your name and the award you have achieved is printed in the commemorative programme which you and your family can take away with you from the graduation day. We do not print any results of classifications. If you don’t want your name to appear, please get in contact with us before Monday 1 July 2019. After this date, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to remove your name.  

 

Gown, photography and merchandise

Where should I get my gown from?

The only approved gown supplier for St George's, University of London is Ede and Ravenscroft. Please visit our gown hire page for more information.

What should I wear underneath the gown?

We encourage you to dress as smart as possible underneath your gown. A shirt or blouse may help you fasten your hood in place, alternatively you can bring a safety pin. Top tip: it is July and it might be hot! Please bare this in mind when choose what to wear underneath your gown.

Will there be any photography?

Yes – Photography will be provided by Success Photographers. Please visit our photography and video page for more information.

Can my guests take photographs and use video cameras during the ceremony?

Guests are welcome to take photographs/video images during the ceremony but we ask that you remain seated to avoid blocking the view of those around you.

Where can I buy souvenirs and memorabilia?

The Students’ Union and their partner Campus Clothing will be offering a range of gifts and souvenirs.

On the day

What should I bring with me on the day?

Please bring your confirmation email and some form of ID to collect your tickets.

What happens on the day of the ceremony?

You should aim to arrive at the venue approx. 2 hours before the ceremony begins, this will give you enough time to collect your tickets, get robed and take any photographed you have arranged. The ceremony will last approx. 2 hours, after the ceremony has completed there will be a ceremony reception in the Barbican Foyers. Find out more on our On the Day page.

 

Accessibility and the venue

Can provisions be made for graduates or guests with individual requirements / disabilities?

You are asked during the ticket booking process if or one of your guests have any access requirements. If you would like to discuss your requirements with us, please contact the graduation team to discuss your needs with us.

Will there be parking near the graduation venue?

Yes, there is parking at the Barbican Centre, including disabled parking. They have their own private car park which has 24hour access. Please visit our venue page for more information.
